WASHINGTON — Petrobras, the Brazilian oil giant at the center of a giant political corruption scandal, reached a $1.8 billion settlement Wednesday to resolve bribery and bid-rigging allegations from the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The settlement stems from a U.S. inquiry into Petrobras’s alleged role in facilitating payments to politicians and political parties in Brazil, as well as a related Brazilian investigation.
