Abortion coverage in California

SACRAMENTO — A California federal judge found in favor of three churches that sued the state’s healthcare department after it denied the churches’ requests for exceptions to a rule requiring insurance plans to cover abortions, finding the denials did not suit a narrowly tailored government interest and infringed the groups’ free exercise of their Christian beliefs.
