Alleged Drug Cartel Leader Extradited

SAN DIEGO (CN) – Cesar Alfredo Meza-Garcia, an alleged leader of a Tijuana drug cartel, was extradited to the United States Thursday to face federal drug charges.     Meza, 36, is the lead defendant, with 18 others, in an indictment charging him with conspiring to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a statement announcing his extradition. He was arrested in Mexico on Sept. 26, 2012 and has been in jail since then.     A federal grand jury indicted him and 18 others in June 2012. He could face up to life in prison and a $10 million fine if convicted of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.     Police seek public help to locate fugitives Salvador Alcala Gonzales, Miguel Angel Bravo Pena, and Jose Luis Casillas, all of whom are believed to be in Mexico.     Tips may be called in to Homeland Security Investigations at 1-866-347-2423.
