Amazon loses challenge to Washington safety law

SEATTLE — A federal court in Washington dismissed Amazon’s lawsuit challenging the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act, which allegedly violates the online retail giant’s right to due process. Amazon says the 45 days that the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals has to make a decision is not enough time for Amazon to prepare an adequate stay request, but the court does not find that this constitutes improper process. The length of the stay must be balanced in the state’s interest in ensuring safe working conditions.
