Banks missed a scam

PITTSBURGH, Penn. — Two banks were unable to dismiss a North Carolina church’s negligence lawsuit, which was filed in a Pennsylvania federal court after the church was scammed into wiring about $800,000 to a fake company in payment for a construction project. The banks, PNC Bank and FNB Corp., did not implement a reasonable verification system to check that the fake company’s name matched that of the correct beneficiary.
