Charles Taylor War Crimes Trial Resumes

The war crimes trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor resumed today in The Hague, Netherlands. Taylor is charged with crimes against humanity in the Sierra Leone civil war from 1991 to 2001. He is being tried by the Special Court for Sierra Leone, under the joint auspices of Sierra Leone and the United Nations. Charges include killings, mutilations, rape, sexual slavery, abductions, forced labor and recruiting and directing child soldiers. His trial began and was halted last summer when Taylor refused to appear in court and bickered over his legal representation.
