<p>In federal court in California, the Department of Justice reached a $49 million <strong><a href="http://www.courthousenews.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/al-qubaisi_consent_judgment_of_forfeiture_0.pdf">settlement</a></strong> of civil forfeiture cases involving assets acquired by Khadem al-Qubaisi using funds allegedly misappropriated from Malaysia’s investment development fund. The recovery of funds is the largest ever under the department’s Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative. </p>
