Civil rights and rental inspections

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A federal court in New York tossed a landlord’s Fourth Amendment claims against Syracuse, which conditions its certification of rental properties on inspections. The landlord says this violated his right from unlawful searches, but the city does not force property owners to consent to the inspection, nor do inspectors seek a warrant to search properties, so there is no Fourth Amendment violation.
