Clay-Loving Wheat Wins Review

WASHINGTON (CN) – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has decided a petition from the Center for Native Ecosystems has enough scientific data to warrant a 12 month status review of the critical habitat of the clay-loving buckwheat.     The clay-loving buckwheat is endemic to the rolling clay (adobe) hills and flats next to the communities of Delta and Montrose, Colorado, and its currently designated critical habitat covers 119 acres. The petition calls for increasing the protected range of the buckwheat.     The USFWS is asking the public to comment on the status of the buckwheat, the methodology used to estimate its population and range and any other data that may help the agency in its review.
