WASHINGTON (CN) – The Defense Department may make 10 year contracts to use renewable energy, under certain circumstances. The department may enter into a contract for more than five years if the purchase is cost effective, and if it would not be possible to purchase electricity from the source in an economical manner without the use of a contract for a period in excess of five years.
