EPA Increases Pesticide Amount Allowed in Meat

WASHINGTON (CN) – The Environmental Protection Agency has increased the amount of the pesticide 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene that will be allowed in meat and on potatoes. The pesticide is found in the sprout inhibitor Amplify, which is used to keep potatoes and animal feed crops fresh in storage.      The limits or “tolerances” are temporary, set to expire May 18, 2012, because an analytical method for metabolites of 2,6-DIPN in livestock has not yet been established.     The EPA also has added tolerance levels for milk fat and potato flakes because residues of 2,6-DIPN normally would be expected to be present in these byproducts.     Click the document icon for this regulation and others.
