(CN) – Former NBA star Jayson Williams pleaded guilty today to aggravated assault for accidently killing a limo driver in his bedroom. While awaiting retrial for reckless manslaughter, Williams pleaded guilty to the lesser charge for the 2002 shooting. Williams faces a minimum of 18 months in prison. If found guilty of reckless manslaughter, he could have been sentenced to up to 10 years. A jury in 2004 acquitted Williams of aggravated manslaughter and could not reach a verdict on reckless manslaughter. His retrial in Somerset County Court, N.J., was to begin this week. Witnesses testified at the trial that Williams was showing Costas Christofi a shotgun, which fired accidentally when he closed it.
