Federal court declines to reinstate judge

CHICAGO — A federal court in Illinois declined to grant a retired judge’s motion for a preliminary injunction seeking reinstatement to a temporary Cook County judicial assignment after the Illinois Supreme Court removed him over politically charged articles and podcast comments without notice or a hearing. Abstention is appropriate because unresolved questions of Illinois constitutional law concerning judicial assignments and discipline should first be addressed by Illinois courts, though the judge has plausibly alleged due process and free speech violations.
