KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A jury awarded a former Harrah’s Casino security guard $1 million for wrongful termination. Michele Chambers said she was fired after telling the Missouri Gaming Commission that she had been told not to investigate or report gamblers who used multiple player cards, which are used to track how much a person loses. Under state law, gamblers must use the cards and are limited to $500 buy-ins every two hours. Using another person’s card is illegal. Chambers said that she and other security workers were instructed in a staff briefing in November 2004 not to intervene when gamblers used more than one card. The Clay County jury rejected Harrah’s defense that Chambers was fired for other reasons, including gossiping. Harrah’s representatives indicated they will appeal.
