Funky FOIA fees

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Government employees of South Carolina’s Richland County did not conduct a reasonable investigation for all documents related to a public records request sent by a former state representative, ruled a state appellate court. The former rep should not have secured an $80,000 award to cover her fees, however, especially because there was minimal discovery and hardly any adversarial proceedings in the matter.
