German Agency Warns of Russian Cybersabotage

BERLIN (AP) — The head of Germany’s domestic intelligence agency has warned that Russia is being increasingly aggressive in its cyberwar activities.     The BfV agency said Friday that Russian intelligence agencies appear to be behind a years-long campaign of electronic espionage known as the “Sofacy/ATP 28” campaign, whose targets have included the German Parliament.     It identified another campaign, codenamed “Sandworm,” that it said appeared to be aimed at sabotaging universities, telecoms firms and energy companies.     BfV chief Hans-Georg Maassen said most campaigns were designed to obtain information, but that “Russian intelligence agencies are also showing a readiness to (carry out) sabotage.”      Copyright 2016 The Associated Press.
