Good Samaritan ship

PORTLAND, Maine — A federal court in Maine dismissed six of seven claims brought by the Maine Maritime Museum against a major U.S. shipyard, which allegedly dispatched an unfit vessel to rescue passengers from the museum’s fishing schooner after it was knocked down while carrying visitors. The shipyard dispatched the rough vessel in its capacity as a Good Samaritan; the risks posed to rescued passengers by the rescue vessel were less than the risks they would have faced if it never attempted rescue in the first place.
