(CN) – Republicans picked up a Senate seat in a tight Indiana race as former businessman Mike Braun won against incumbent Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly.
Donnelly, who served one term, ran on his bipartisan record. President Donald Trump won Indiana by 19 points in the 2016 presidential election. By 9 p.m. EST, Braun was leading Donnelly 53-42 percent.
Donnelly took heat from Braun for voting against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, saying that “he is more concerned with standing with his liberal Democratic leaders than standing for Hoosiers.”
The win will likely help cement the GOP’s control of the Senate.
