(CN) – Jim Bohlen, a founder of the Greenpeace environmental movement, died this week at his home in British Columbia. He was 84.The movement took its name from Bohlen’s attempt to protest a 1971 U.S. nuclear test in the Aleutian Islands by sailing a boat there – the Greenpeace – and waiting for the bomb. The Coast Guard stopped the Greenpeace, but news coverage of the protest saved Amchitka Island from being nuked. It was turned into a bird sanctuary.
