High but not dry

SEATTLE — A union beat Alaska Airlines’ attempt to vacate the union’s decision to reinstate an aircraft maintenance technician who tested positive for marijuana. A federal court in Washington presided over the claims, and found the airliner could not show the technician unsafely performed his job, so the collective bargaining agreement’s “just cause” provision was unmet. The employee denied using marijuana, and was able to explain that he may have accidentally ingested it at a potluck block party.
