CHICAGO (CN) – Attorney William Amattey, a U.S. citizen born in Ghana who attended law school there, sued the Illinois Supreme Court, challenging “a bizarre rule” that prevents him from becoming a member of the Illinois Bar because he did not attend a law school approved by the American Bar Association. Amattey says he is “a member in good standing of the Bar of the State of New York, United States District Court for Northern Illinois, United States Court of Appeals for the 7th circuit,” and has been an active member of the ABA since 1995.
