ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Cayuga Indian Nation of New York claims Seneca County is foreclosing on four parcels of Cayuga land in violation of the 1794 Treaty of Canandaigua. The county claims the Cayugas owe property taxes; the Cayugas say they lost the land more than a century ago through “a series of illegal sales to the State of New York,” and reacquired them through purchase.
