BRIDGEPORT, CONN. (CN) – Former Waterbury **Mayor Philip Giordano , sentenced in 2003 to 37 years in prison on 17 counts involving sexual abuse of young girls while he was mayor, asks the Federal Court to overturn his conviction and vacate his sentence, alleging ineffective assistance of counsel. Giordano was convicted of 14 counts of using an interstate device – his cell phone – to persuade a prostitute to arrange for him to have sex with her daughter and niece, who were 8 and 10 year old.
