WASHINGTON (CN) – Yes, pilots of the Mitsubishi MU-2B require additional training. The seven-seater operates more like a fighter jet than a twin-engine aircraft and the pilot must pay strict attention to keep it flying. The Federal Aviation Administration’s mandated extra training includes stall awareness and recovery procedures, how to control the plane with the more critical engine out, exactly how much to slow during landing approach, and how icing conditions change the performance. The regulations are based on an FAA safety evaluation due to increased accidents, include experience and operating requirements, and apply to pilots and co-pilots.
