Nebraska Says Ethanol Plants Are Polluters

LINCOLN, NEB. (CN) – Nebraska accuses two ethanol plants of polluting land and water by dumping “thin silage waste” containing ammonia and other noxious compounds. It demands $10,000 fines per day from Standard Ethanol dba Mid America Agri Products-Madrid, in Lancaster County Court.     Nebraska says the plants dumped thin silage waste, “which is very high in ammonia, nitrogen, phosphate, BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand), suspended solids and dissolved solids.”
