WASHINGTON (CN) – The Federal Railroad Administration proposes establishing a process for review and approval of industry standards related to safety equipment being placed and secured on new rail equipment. Under the proposal, industry representatives would be able to submit requests for approval of existing industry standards relating to the safety equipment arrangements on newly constructed railroad cars, locomotives, tenders, or similar vehicles instead of complying with certain other provisions, which may not appropriately apply to the new rail equipment. The agency anticipates that the proposed special approval process will enhance railroad safety. Click on the document icon for this regulation and others.
