No deception if you seek it

PHILADELPHIA — A Pennsylvania federal court dismissed a consumer’s lawsuit accusing Amazon of deceptively advertising $100 gift cards for $50. He received $50 gift cards after paying that amount, but he pleaded himself out of court by admitting he was intentionally seeking out pricing errors he believed were likely mistakes. “By implicitly conceding he did not expect that Amazon truly intended to make a money-losing offer, [the shopper] makes it implausible to conclude that he believed the advertised price was genuine.”
