NYPD legal defense

BROOKLYN — A federal court in New York denied New York City’s motion to stay a citizen’s false arrest complaint until a city board can determine whether city counsel can represent the police officers being sued. The applicable law does not contemplate staying a federal civil suit pending the resolution of a city’s disciplinary proceedings, which may take years.
