Overdose control

PHILADELPHIA — A federal court in Pennsylvania ruled in favor of the Justice Department, which argues that a nonprofit’s proposed safe injection site, which would supervise Philadelphians injecting opioids to prevent overdoses, may not escape criminal prosecution under the “crack house statute.” The nonprofit says its Judeo-Christian beliefs motivate its need to “do everything possible to care for the sick,” but its articles of incorporation and mission do not identify it as a religious entity, so the First Amendment does not protect it.
