Refugees Flee North

Canada received 50,420 applications for political asylum in 2017, the highest number in decades, and more than double the 23,930 it received in 2016, according to the <strong><a href="https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/reports-statistics/statistics-open-data.html">Canadian government</a></strong> and the <strong><a href="http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/04/16/asylum-claims-in-canada-reached-highest-level-in-decades-in-2017/">Pew Research Center</a></strong>.
