Resort Says Media Companies Cheated

MANHATTAN (CN) – A resort company claims three men and three companies cheated it of $200,000 in a deal offering to promote the resort using the “Maxim” magazine name.     EMI Resorts sued Dennis Publishing, Stephen Colvin, Barry Pincus, Vincent Partners, Edward Vincent, and Alpha Media Group in New York County Court.      EMI says the defendants claimed that if they did the deal, “Maxim” would promote the Dominican Republic-based resort. Colvin was CEO of Dennis Publishing and Pincus its director of branded development, the complaint states. Alpha Media Group is successor to Dennis. Vincent was a principal in Vincent Partners, which Dennis, Colvin and Pincus allegedly retained to market and sell rights to the “Maxim” name.     EMI claims the defendants violated numerous provisions of the New York Franchise Act in pushing through the deal, and never provided the services they promised.     EMI says it paid Alpha more than $200,000. It claims damages of more than $80 million. It is represented by Matthew Wild with Levitt & Kaizer.
