Senate Report Accuses Bush and Cheney|Of Taking U.S. Into Iraq War on Pretext

WASHINGTON (CN) – In a long-delayed report released today, the Senate Intelligence Committee accused President Bush and Vice President Cheney of leading the country to war in Iraq by exaggerating Saddam Hussein’s alleged links to Al Qaeda.     In a statement accompanying the report, Committee Chairman Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV accused Bush, Cheney and their advisers of conducting “a relentless public campaign in the aftermath of the [Sept. 11] attacks to use the war against Al Qaeda as a justification for overthrowing Saddam Hussein.”      A second report, also released today, accuses National Security Adviser Steven Hadley and former Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz of failing to properly inform the State Department about secret meetings between Iranian dissidents in Rome and Paris in 2003.
