Six Towns Say Big Oil Poisoned Their Water

MANHATTAN (CN) – Six towns on Long Island say Amerada Hess and dozens of other oil companies contaminated their drinking water with carcinogenic MTBE – methyl tertiary butyl ether. Glen Cove, South Huntington, Huntington/Dix Hills, Greenlawn, Plainview, and Albertson Water Districts sued in Federal Court.     The water districts are represented by Robert Gitelman with Napoli Bern.     Here are the defendants: Amerada Hess Corp., Ashland Inc., Atlantic Richfield Co., BP Products North America, Chevron USA, Chevron-Texaco Corp., Citgo Petroleum Corp., Citgo Refining & Chemical Co., Colorado Refining Co., ConocoPhillips Co., Crown Central Petroleum Corp., El Paso Merchant Energy-Petroleum Co., Equilon Enterprises, Equistar Chemicals LP, ExxonMobil Chemical Co., ExxonMobil Corp., ExxonMobil Oil Corp., Flint Hills Resources, Getty Petroleum Corp., Getty Properties Corp., Giant Yorktown Inc., Gulf Oil LP, Huntsman Corp., Irving Oil Corp., Irving Oil Ltd., Lukoil Americas, Lyondell Chemical Co., Lyondell-Citgo Refining LP, Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC, Marathon Oil Co., Mobil Corp., Motiva Enterprises LLC, Occidental Chemical Corp., Shell Oil Co., Shell Oil Products Co.
