State Farm’s racketeering claims proceed against doctor

SAN ANTONIO — A federal judge in Texas denied a doctor’s motion to dismiss State Farm’s racketeering lawsuit against him, according to which the doctor performed unnecessary steroidal injections for neck and back pain to “inflate the severity and potential value” of his patients’ insurance claims. The insurer adequately alleged that the doctor knew this was illegal and submitted fraudulent paperwork as part of the scheme.
