TV Reporter Says Story Damaged Her Ears

LAS VEGAS (CN) – A TV anchorwoman sued the Las Vegas police department, claiming she suffered permanent hearing loss from reporting on a story about cops and guns. MSNBC anchor Christina Brown said she was hurt while working for non-party KTNV Channel 13 News, before she joined the cable news channel.     The Emmy Award-winning journalist, who left the local affiliate and joined MSNBC in 2007, says in her negligence complaint in Clark County Court that she was reporting a story for KTNV about how Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department used semi-automatic rifles in the field.     Brown says she was allowed to fire 50 rounds from one of the powerful rifles during a June 28, 2006 demonstration.     She says officers gave her earmuffs but not ear plugs, though the officers donned both during the demonstration.     “Defendants were aware of the dangers associated with the use of said firearms and failed to protect (Brown) to the same extent that they protected themselves,” according to the lawsuit, which was filed by Audrey Goldberg.
