VA Botched Cancer Surgeries, Men Say

PHILADELPHIA (CN) – Three veterans say the Veterans Administration botched their prostate cancer treatments by implanting radioactive “seeds” in the wrong place, damaging healthy tissue and delivering insufficient radiation to their cancerous prostates.     The men sued Dr. Gary Kao, then-director of the Philadelphia VA Medical Centers brachytherapy program and a doctor with the co-defendant Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. They also sued Dr. Stanley Malkowitz and the United States.     As many as 92 patients received incorrect radiation doses due to botched surgeries, according to The Associated Press.     The three plaintiffs are represented by Michael Barrett with Saltz, Mongeluzzo, Barrett & Bendesky.
