Vintners Propose Pine|Mountain-Mayacmas Spot

WASHINGTON (CN) – The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau plans to recognize a 4,600 acre “Pine Mountain-Mayacmas” American viticultural area in parts of Mendocino and Sonoma Counties, California.     The agency designates viticultural areas so vintners may better describe and market their wines.     The proposed viticultural area surrounds Pine Mountain, a 3,000 foot peak on the western flank of the Mayacmas Mountains in northern Sonoma and southern Mendocino Counties. The area currently has 230 acres of commercial vineyards with another 150 acres under development.     According to a petition submitted by local wineries in support of the new viticultural area, the area’s distinguishing features include its mountainous soils, steep topography with high elevations, and a growing season climate that contrasts with the climate of the Alexander Valley floor below.     Click on the document icon for this regulation and others.
